To Relocate or Not? Revisited

The Move  is Under Way!

WordPress’ store displayed the Guided Transfer selection the other day, and I pounced!

Shortly thereafter, WP sent an automated email with instructions and information. I purchased hosting services from a listed Provider as instructed and got a few ancillary things.  I was instructed to block out a 24-hour period on a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for them to do the transfer.  I emailed in reply immediately with the requested information and a target transfer date of April 6.   it’s now April 8; the blog is unchanged and I’ve heard nothing yet.  Looks like the backlog got in the way.

Their email had one scary phrase: “When the time comes, we will…,” followed by lists of plugins they would install, their post-transfer support, etc. “When the time comes” is pretty hard to plan around.

Provider’s software assigned my new blog hosting software to my email domain, as well as making other wrong-way assignments.   My email domain and my new blog domain are  in one billing account.  Apparently this setup is tricky and I didn’t know the techniques. Setting up Provider’s e-mail account  for my blog went o.k. but some of the other apps would not cooperate. They are supposed to be free as part of my hosting package, but there was way to activate them—their screens all want money.

This led to a delightful tech support phone call with Provider. George-the-Tech helped me through most of the corrections, but a few needed more system time to settle in place.

By now it was the wee hours of Easter Morning, so I stopped computer work for a  while.

In the words of Scarlett O’Hara, “I’ll think about it tomorrow.”
